Cobalt Acquires Superior Alarm Systems
New York, NY (May 15, 2025) – Cobalt Service Partners today announced that it has acquired Superior Alarm Systems (“SAS”). SAS is Cobalt’s 13th acquisition since launching in December of 2023, and its second acquisition of 2025.
SAS, based in Canoga Park, California, is a security integrator focused on enterprise customers throughout California, but with a national and international footprint. Doug Leener founded SAS in 1981, four years after his parents’ home was burglarized, sparking a lifelong interest in security. Jared Leener joined in 2016 and serves as Director of Business Development and Sales.
“I started Superior Alarm Systems in the garage. I bought a drill motor and a drill bit, and a week later I sold two installs at residences in Canoga Park,” said Leener. “To this day, the break-in incident from 1977 remains top of mind and is a constant reminder of the importance of the work we do here at SAS in providing peace of mind to our customers.”
“SAS is exactly the kind of business we want to partner with for so many reasons”
As it came time to consider retirement, Leener looked for a company that would maintain SAS’s legacy and continue to provide top notch service to customers. “It was clear to me right away that the people who run Cobalt understood our mission and would place a high value on our employees and the work that they do,” Leener explained. “They’ll provide us with the resources of a much larger company, while respecting the integrity and uniqueness of our local operation.”
Jared echoed this sentiment in reflecting on his and Doug’s decision to partner with Cobalt, saying: “We felt that Cobalt’s model and mission were a perfect fit to allow us to focus on continuing to grow our business and support our customers — while still maintaining our ‘boutique’ customer experience.”
“SAS is exactly the kind of business we want to partner with for so many reasons,” said Anthony Gonzalez, Co-CEO of Cobalt. “SAS is mission-oriented, takes great care of its team, and provides unmatched support to its longstanding customers. We’re so grateful to honor and accelerate these efforts.”
Coinciding with the Cobalt partnership, Doug will be gradually transitioning out of the day-to-day operation into a well-deserved retirement and Jared will continue in his current capacity as Director of Business Development and Sales. Over the coming months, Cobalt will look to supplement the SAS team with additional leadership talent to help support its continued growth.
